Anybody walking on the Ballito Promenade regularly will be aware that there has been an increase in the number of rats (the furry, four-footed with tails kind!) frequenting the promenade.
This is obviously because of the abundance of food litter in and around the bins, on the rocks, and also left by some of the people who frequent the beach.
The Conservancy therefore recently contacted Robbie Sturgeon of Allkill Pest Control and the Ratepayers Association (DOCRRA) and asked if we could launch a joint effort to remove the rodents.
As the Conservancy has to raise funds to operate our community projects, we asked for the best price possible from the Specialists and also financial help from DOCRRA.
This morning, whilst walking on the Promenade, I was delighted to see Allkill already at work, and, on behalf of the community, I would like to share the Conservancy’s thanks to Robbie Sturgeon for the cooperative and speedy way in which the problem has been tackled.
A very big thank you as well, to DOCRRA, for their financial assistance. Let’s try and keep our natural environment as clean and healthy as possible – and that means more effort from all beach users.
