Having fully canvassed the political opinions of the regular patrons at Siggy’s, I can confidently report that the advent of Rigby Heenan standing for the ANC in the ward 22 by-election against an unknown DA candidate emanating from Gauteng (or wherever) has caused great confusion among the ranks of us Salt Rock residents, most of whom appear to have declined the free t-shirts handed out willy-nilly by Rigby and pals (the ones featuring an alternative pic of Madiba being in short supply).
Should us locals break with tradition today and vote in an ANC candidate who, being one of us, may best represent the interests of us residents as an ANC insider (but has no chance in hell of persuading his leaders to scrap the BBBEEE policy or dump some of the less palatable provisions of the land claim process) or vote for a DA outsider who may not actually know where to find Tinley Manor on the map or appreciate the need to permanently fix the regular power outages in our neck of the woods, the process has certainly stirred up debate and added some spice to a usually dull and pedestrian process. Win or lose, Viva Rigby!
