Big thanks to the young couple from Ballito, Sunita and Mark, who found our car keys on the promenade on Sunday morning.
It was a beautiful morning and we had been on a walk on the promenade, towards the end of which my husband discovered that he no longer had the car keys. They had escaped through a hole in his pocket. A frantic search ensued, and a visit to the nearby restaurants to see if anyone had handed them in. All to no avail.
My husband decided to retrace his steps again, while I waited disconsolately by the car, hoping for a miracle. And it happened! This young couple came along and asked me if that was my car. When I said yes, they produced the keys, which they had found on the promenade quite a distance from where we had parked.
They must have come back to look for a Toyota with bewildered and desperate owners standing nearby. They then decided to attempt to find my husband and found him frantically searching for something along the promenade near the tidal pool, and even offered to give him a lift to his car. When my husband offered a reward for their thoughtfulness and efforts, they refused.
This turned what would have been a miserable day into a pleasure, and made us extremely thankful yet again that we decided to retire and live in this wonderful and friendly place called Ballito, which my husband, although living in South Africa for 15 years or so, had never heard of before we came here.
Thank you again Sunita and Mark!
