#Letter: Beach clean-up turnout encouraging

"I really hope there will be even bigger turnouts to help this initiative gain traction going forward" - Tony Kruger.

Tony Kruger of Ballito writes:

I was pleased to see the article in the Courier on a beach clean-up initiative involving a sizable number of local community members that took place along the Zimbali beachfront a couple of Sundays ago.

The good turnout of young people and families was especially pleasing.

I also applaud the effort to make this a monthly event, tackling various Ballito beaches.

I really hope there will be even bigger turnouts to help this initiative gain traction going forward.

Part of such traction would be that events like this receive more prominent reporting in the Courier.

Given the globally recognised challenge of environmental pollution, it was disappointing that the report was tucked away at the bottom of page 15. Surely it should have been a front pager?

This is not meant to detract from the good and ongoing environmental reporting your newspaper does do, but it was an opportunity missed to try and garner more community involvement.
