Shakaskraal resident Mengezi Zikhali writes:
Residents in Nkobongo (Entabeni Road) have been subjected to an unattended sewerage problem since last year.
Human faeces run down the road, which is a major health hazard.
The cause is a sewer line blockage since last year’s floods and the issue has not been addressed by our Ward 8 councillor.
The local standpipe does not have a drain to remove dirty water, leading to contamination of the community’s water.
It goes without saying that sanitation applies to all South Africans as is enshrined in Chapter 2 of the Constitution of South Africa, ensuring prevention of spreadable diseases such as cholera and diarrhoea.
There is a major lack of service delivery in our area.
It is unfortunate to see the legacy of apartheid live on in township areas where matters such as service delivery are disregarded and suburban areas continue to flourish. I hope this concern is acted upon.
