Susan Drew of Ballito writes:
With so much going on in everyday life, give a thought and a little time for those who cannot speak for themselves – our animals and pets.
Please take care of them during the holidays – they have feelings and emotions too. Do not abandon, dump or neglect them. Don’t be cruel to them.
Pets and animals are special – they are our companions, they console us when we are hurting, bring us pleasure, protect us and understand us. They heal us when we are broken, they give us hope. All they ask for is attention, shelter and food. Be there for them!
People take in small animals because they are cute, but they are like children and grow up. They are still your responsibility when they are older, make sure they are properly cared for. There are no bad animals or pets – just like children – but bad parenting breeds bad habits.
We all have a right to live on this earth. We humans are destroying the environment and the animals who are part of the ecosystems. We destroy their homes, their habitat and their food source.
In our own homes, we force pets to live in small spaces, neglect them or tie them up. So who’s fault is it when they are hurt, angry, hungry, upset and disorientated?
Be aware, be a mouthpiece! Donate funds to worthy causes that educate humans and protect animals for future generations to come.
Communities and stakeholders should enforce care policies towards pets and animals. We need more awareness, more understanding and more commitment.
