#Letter: Annual car licence renewal pain

Wendy Illing writes that the licence renewal process is simply a box-ticking exercise.

Ballito resident Wendy Illing writes:

The article “Licensing office woes” in the Courier, dated December 5, refers.

Ballito residents are growing increasingly frustrated over the closure of the licensing office at Nokukhanya Luthuli House. They are forced to travel a fair distance to either Stanger or Verulam, or pay an extra R180 at the local Spar.

Besides all this, my question is, and always has been, what is this renewal licence for? No one tests your vehicle, examines it or test drives it?

It could be a rusted old unroadworthy skadonk, for all anyone knows. But it does have/need a licence. Really?

Ed – You make a valid point. The good news is that Ballito licensing office is due to reopen later this week.
