Zimbali squash wins premier league

First team wins Dolphin Coast Premier League.

Zimbali’s squash team won the Dolphin Coast squash premier league for 2015 thanks to a consistent effort from their strong team.

They only lost one match during the entire season, against Salt Rock in the beginning of the year.

Salt Rock, who were ably assisted by national champion Avesh Nurbagh, came second, followed closely by Umhlali.

Team captain Dave de Beer, who was also a former Zimbabwean national champion and captained his Zimbabwean side in the early 90s, led the team of Grant Wylie, Mitch Hedges, Ed Wheeler, Kevin Ulyett and Brent Campbell.

“The team consists of such a good bunch of guys and we really get on well together,” said De Beer.

“I am hoping the boys stay together for the next year’s league and set a precedence so that all clubs next year follow suit and import players from Durban so as to strengthen the squash league on the Dolphin Coast.”

De Beer said Grant Wylie is a first league player from Durban who has moved up to Ballito.

Kevin Ulyett went from a Wimbledon and Australian Open tennis champ and has now turned his skills to squash and Mitch Hedges was a runner-up in the Dolphin Coast championship this year, losing a nail-biter to Avesh Nurbagh.

Brent Campbell is an ex-Glenwood boy who also played Natal squash.

The team thanked chairman Syd Kelly for his support and for organising the sponsorship for Zimbali’s squash team through the Zimbali Golf Club.
