Charity golf day a tight contest
Ballito golfers shoot for the North Coast Courier Orphan Fund.
Ballito golfers once again opened their hearts and wallets at the 16th annual Ballito Open charity golf day held at Umhlali Country Club on December 28, that raised R29 772.
Conditions were challenging with the wind picking up quite a bit during the day, challenging golfers to think twice about club selection and lineup.
The proceeds go to the North Coast Courier Orphan Fund. The fund secretary, Rose Stephenson, paid tribute to Malcolm Mann and his family for their time and effort in running the event every year and to Orphan Fund Administrator Surekha Brijlall for all her hard work sourcing prizes and finding sponsorships.
“Thank you on behalf of the orphans to all the sponsors for their generous and continued support for this annual event,” she said.
In a tightly contested Open, a three-way tie for top honors was decided by a count-out. The four-ball alliance format with two scores to count, saw the top three teams all card final scores of 86 points.
Miti Yalouris, MP Ferreira, Chris Ferreira and Malcolm Mann snuck in through the back door to clinch top honours, with the North Coast Courier’s team including Bruce Stephenson, Jacqueline Herbst, Nick Moynihan and Vaughan McDonnell in second and the team of Jan Erasmus, Fred Watts, John Bredenkamp and Peter Botha in third.
The raffle prize of a bottle of special Johnny Walker Blue whisky drew a lot of interest but in the end it was Dylan Kylock whose name was drawn from the hat.
