Unconvincing football this weekend

Nkobongo Madrid and Glenhills United have to improve their performances.

The coaches of Nkobongo Madrid and Glenhills United undoubtedly have their work cut out to improve their players’ performances for the rest of the SAB (South African Breweries) Regional League season.

The two teams came up against one another last weekend in a forgettable encounter at the Recreation Grounds in KwaDukuza. It was the first round of games in the SAB competition and the rustiness showed on both teams with neither showing any attacking flair. Glenhills coach, Nhlanhla Sukude, said that although his team were eventual winners (2-0), it was largely due to their opponents lack of fitness.

“We need to change the way we play if we want to do well this year. But as the season goes on, we will do better,” said Sekude.

The coach of Nkobongo Madrid, Ajipha Ntamila, echoed these sentiments and said that his team has a lot to improve on.

“The boys are still unfit coming from a holiday but we will work hard at training on our identified weaknesses,” said Ntamila. The goals for United both came during the first half of the game through Sihle Mlaba and Sphamandla Shoba, the latter’s brilliant header finding its mark in one of the few highlights of the game.
