Great scores all round for Umhlali
The highlight of the cricket term is the many records the Umhlali Preparatory School U13A cricket team has set.
Umhlali Preparatory School is proud to end its first term with shinning results in the pool, on the court and especially on the pitch.
The swimming teams excelled in the pool, winning the North Durban “A” Gala for a record fifth year in a row.
The tennis players made their mark on the court, with Anna Wise and Yache’ Perumal making the KZN Tennis Team for 2016.
Cricket boys played first class games, with both the U13A and U10A team going unbeaten.
A special mention has to go to Michael de Beer, Aryan Singh and Devan Keenan, who have been selected for the KZN U11 final cricket trials taking place in August.
The highlight of the cricket term is the many records the U13A cricket team has set. The opening batsman partnership of Joshua White and Slade van Staden scored a record 200 run partnership not once, but twice this term. Joshua and Slade both scored 100 runs on three occasions and Dylan Hulett produced a hundred this term.
It has not happened often that the top three in a school team have an average of more than 70 runs and more, and all three boys’ average above this with Dylan Hulett topping the averages with 104 runs per game.
In the last game of the season, the U13A team scored a mammoth 422 for 0 in 35 overs scoring at 12 runs to the over.
This has never been done by an Umhlali cricket team before and it is possibly a first in the history of U13A cricket matches. Yache’ Perumal topped the bowling list taking 13 wickets in the season.
The team scored 2294 runs in 270 overs during the term, which works out to an average of 254 runs per game and took 73 wickets in 226 overs.
The U13A cricket team also won the Glenwood High School U13A T20 Tournament.
The school’s dance team won the Dance League and the chess team made all the right moves.
Next up is the Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival, where the U13A Rugby Team will be participating and playing the opening game at the festival on March 24.
