It is time once again to join the biggest jet ski fishing group in the country as the 2017 Seaman Challenge gets underway.
The action kicks off on Thursday, December 7 and will not stop until the following Monday.
The challenge will see anglers heading out on boats, jet skis and kayaks to compete for the King of Salmon and Species awards, worth R20 000 and R5000 respectively.
There will also be a competition for juniors where the prizes will be R2500 and R1500 respectively.
The Ballito Ski Boast Club has had a bit of a rough history, particularly after the clubhouse was washed away nearly a decade ago.
However, soon enough the fishing fundis rose again, this time on jet skis. Four years later and the club, with 62 members and more than 40 jet skis, is the largest jet ski based fishing group in SA.
Last year’s Seaman Challenge saw 36 craft take part, having launched everywhere from Blythedale down to Durban. This year the organisers are hoping to attract up to 100 craft, they have already received 75 entries, so hurry if you intend to join them.
The competition will run off a points system, where people will be awarded points per kilogram of fish caught.
There will be a weigh in at Salmon Bay at 1pm each day.
The public are also invited to come spend an awesome day at Salmon Bay with the guys and girls from the ski boat club, there will be stalls, food, chef lessons and loads of awesome raffle prizes to be won.
Entries cost R750 per angler and space is very limited. For more information, contact Martin Talaard at 074 495 5555 or smtaljaard@gmail.com.
