WATCH: The sun rises on day one of the Ballito Pro Billabong Juniors

All the action is going down at Willard Beach from today as the 2018 Ballito Pro presented by Billabong gets started.

The highly anticipated Billabong Junior Series, presented by BOS, of the Ballito Pro, presented by Billabong, got underway this morning as the young surfers took to the water.

The youngsters were out in force in the early hours, with dozens in the surf for dawn patrol at first light.

While the waves were not huge, reliable sets were rolling in for very surfable conditions that drew early spectators to Willard Beach.

A handful of our local Ilembe Surfriders who are looking for your support at the Ballito Pro.

The beach itself was looking very good after concerns that it would not be ready in time for the Pro.

Fortunately between the organisers and KwaDukuza municipality they managed to get everything ship ship just in time.

The Junior competition ends on Sunday. Event coordinator Colette Bundy told the Courier they had 90 juniors participating this year representing a good mix of local, national and international talent.

The Golden Jubilee edition of the Ballito Pro pres. by Billabong, the world’s longest running professional surfing event, has attracted a stellar field of the world’s top surfers to Willard Beach from June 25 to 1 July.

The first World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) 10,000 rated event of the year will showcase the talents of more than half of the world’s elite top 34 ranked surfers on the Championship Tour (CT).
