Ashton on top of their game

Sixteen Ashton Swimming Academy swimmers have qualified to go to regionals in two weeks’ time at Level 2, Level 3 and Junior Nationals.

Be it in the water, on the tennis court or the rugby field, Ashton’s sport teams have had a shining start to the 2018 sporting season.

The Senior College swimming team finished fourth out of ten schools at the Co-ed D&D A League gala while the Junior College will be taking part in their D&D League gala this week.

On the tennis front, Anna Wise and Eryn Baird have been selected for the KZN Junior Schools tennis team, with Kayler Hullett participating as a member of the Ethekwini team at the KZN Interdistrict tournament at Senior School level.

Julian Steyn, Darshan Pather and Kedaar Govender were selected for the Ilembe District cricket team, and it was certainly a proud moment when Julian was selected as the U11 Vice-Captain.

Dzemil Muric won the KZN U21 Karate title and participated at the Inter-Provincials over the weekend.

Pre-season rugby training certainly paid off as the U14A, U16A and the firsts won their first rugby matches of the season in front of their home crowd at Ashton on Saturday against Amanzimtoti High.

Head of Senior College sport Craig Currin said: “All the teams performed exceptionally well and the commitment and dedication of the players as well as the fitness training during the off season, really shone on Saturday.”

The first netball, girls hockey, boys hockey and rugby teams will be participating in the St Dunstan’s Easter Festival.
