Diamond dance rocks Crawford

Dance studio rocks a Hunger Games themed performance.

Proud parents and theatre fans alike were blown away on Saturday, November 28, when Footworx Dance Studio presented their mesmerising dance adaptation of ‘The Hunger Games’ at Crawford College North Coast.

In a powerful re-imagining of the popular movie franchise, professional choreographer and owner of Footworx, Natasha Hooman directed a troop of young dancers in a stunning performance that left the audience moved and hungry for more.

The show was organised as Footworx Dance Studio’s end of year concert and featured a variety of dance genres the performers have been trying their feet at since January.

The ballad of life and death at the centre of ‘The Hunger Games’ story was captured in a ballet alive with flair as the performers displayed the diversity of their skill-set.

“When I opened Footworx back in 2013, I had a vision and passion to develop and grow the appreciation of dance and the arts in Ballito,” said Hooman, whose studio offers dance training in genres including ballet, hip-hop, tap, modern, burlesque, contemporary and flexibility.

The production demonstrated the high level of talent among the studio’s senior dancers and featured the performances of the likes of Tanya Webb, who hails from the New York Ballet summer school, Tyler Williams, an award winning gymnast and coach, as well as New York Talent Competition candidate, Storm Mirtle.

Pulsating with on-stage energy, the dancers captivated the audience with a mix of electric pace and exquisite grace that kept them guessing during each dance number.

What no one saw coming, however, including Hooman herself, was a final act that made the performance a real love story.

As the cast of dancers filled the stage to take their final bow, they were joined by a smiling Hooman, who was met with a round of applause and a surprise announcement from the production’s sound technician.

Stephan Roets took the mic from the sound booth and declared his love for Hooman, before walking down the stands and getting down on one knee to ask her to marry him.

Choked with tears of joy, Hooman said yes and the happy couple kissed to a chorus of cheers, claps and whistles fitting of their special moment.
