THE word woman conjures up a lot of images in people’s minds and brings out varied emotions of selfless love, nurturing and caring attitude. For Miss Earth finalist, Shante’ Gumede, this saying holds true. The 21-year-old public relations student was recently voted in to the top 16 of the competition. The former Ridge Park College said besides being a green fundi, she has been afforded the opportunity to help the Ekusizaneni Children’s Home in KwaMashu which cares for orphaned children.
“The Miss Earth South Africa programme aims to empower young women with the knowledge and platform to create a sustainable difference in our plight to combat the destruction of our natural heritage. It’s been a fantastic experience and I’m just so excited to be in such a priviliged position,” she said.
Gumede, an aspiring actress said she the experience of helping others has opened her heart. She said she was hopeful she would fly the flag high for the North.
The Durban North resident will be hosting a Women’s Day fund-raiser at the Olwandle Guest House on 10 August. The first part is a pamper party from 10am to 2pm and an all white party from 7pm to 12pm (100 per person).
