CHAIRMAN of the Durban North/uMhlanga Community Police Forum, Haden Searles, is urging residents to be part of the Peace Walk which takes place on 31 August (1.30pm for 2pm) which starts at the Crusaders Sports Club. The aim of the walk is to show that through collaboration the North Durban community can root out crime.
“It is important to note this is not a protest march and is a non-political event. Members of the community approached the CPF to help raise crime awareness as well as highlight the need to report crime,” he said.
Searles added the event will also have jumping castle, a big screen for The Sharks Currie Cup game as well as members from Marshall Security, Blue Security and Enforce will be in attendance to answer any questions on rights as a citizen and how to help root out crime in our neighbourhood.
The Durban North SAPS will also lend a helping hand as well as Metro Police. The route is approximately 3.2km long and there will be police vehicles along the route.
“It’s fantastic to have the commitment of all the security companies and the SAPS and the message is to show we are united by one common purpose, against crime,” he said.
He urged residents to contact Neil Powell on 082 958 0702 to volunteer as a marshal for the walk. “We are still in need of marshals so please people make that call and volunteer.”
