Sportswomen honoured at glittering event

NORTHLANDS Girls' High School (NGHS) rolled out the red carpet at their glittering annual Sportswomen's Dinner recently.

Guest speaker and NGHS Old Girl, Michelle Massyn, a member of the SA Karate team and current World Women’s Karate Champion, delivered a motivating speech.

Achievers in everything from action netball to volleyball were awarded certificates and trophies and team captains gave polished end-of-year reports. There wasn’t a training shoe or tracksuit in sight as the girls dressed for the occasion in cocktail dresses and heels. Head of sport, Cynthia Field, was delighted with how well the evening went.

“NGHS is very proud of its many national and regional representatives, but to have an evening where we can honour excellence, as well as give awards acknowledging commitment and recognising promising junior players, is key to the promotion of sport,” said Cynthia.

NGHS is looking forward to formally opening its new gymnasium any day now, complete with high quality gym equipment including exercise bikes, treadmills, punch bags and a weights section.
