Nothing can keep a good woman down

Founder of Celebrate Life, SA, Cherry Armstrong, is beaming with excitement for the Mount Meru climb in February.

IN preparation for the climbing of Mount Meru in February 2014, six of the 10-women team are on a mission to get themselves ready for this exciting journey by practising.

The women who are supporting the non profit organisation, Celebrate Life SA, made their way to several locations in the Drakensburg with the purpose of getting fit and ready for the huge task ahead of them. The three-day walk, which started on Thursday 24 October, started at Bushmans Neck going through to Lesotho, where these adventurous women spent every night in a cave after the day’s walk.

Malcolm Miller, who assisted the women with climbing techniques, said: “It was a great pleasure to be involved with Celebrate Life SA again! They are a dedicated bunch of women who are willing to sweat to raise funds for their worthwhile causes.” Malcolm trained 12 women who participated in climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, one of Celebrate Life’s first initiatives to raise funds for Hospice in 2005.

The founder of Celebrate Life, SA and uMhlanga resident, Cherry Armstrong, said she continues to rave with excitement, clearly pointing out that not even the rain has the power to put women with a purpose down.

“We are taking these brilliant women out of their comfort zone to achieve something personal as well,” she added.

Celebrate Life SA is a non-profit organiszation established with the purpose of creating awareness and facilitating support across society to alleviate human and environmental suffering.

The women taking on the Mount Meru climb are Cherry Armstrong (uMhlanga), Dionne Collett (Durban North), Sofie Hermelin (La Lucia), Lydia Townsend (Riverside), Lara Plumtree (Dublin), Leah Shone (Ballito), Yvette Taylor (Westville), Kristina Wallengren (Hillcrest), Sherin Warren (London) and Margaret Westerhof (Ballito).
