Festive season’s patrolling pays off

There has been a significant drop in crime in the Greenwood Park area following the launch of Greenwood Park Police Station's festive season operations' plan.

THERE’S been a significant drop in crime in the Greenwood Park area following the launch of Greenwood Park Police Station’s festive season operations’ plan.

The station’s communication officer, Lt Elvis Naidoo, said there’s been a major decrease in crime in the last week thanks to the increased patrolling in the area.

“We’ve seen a major decrease of crime in the Effingham area. We’ve been having regular roadblocks, looking for guns, weapons, drugs and we have been validating vehicle’s registration numbers as well,” he said.

The festive season campaign started at the beginning of October and continues till mid January.

“At this time of year lots of people are robbed at ATMs. We have been visiting local shops, banks and petrol stations to check on their surveillance equipment and asking them to upgrade where needed.

“CCTV footage is vital for the police to identify suspects,” he added.

Lt Naidoo also urged residents to take responsibility of their homes’ security during the festive season.

“We ask residents to be vigilant in protecting their properties and to get someone to watch their homes while away on holiday,” he said.

He said the station was geared up for the festive season and warned residents not to drive while under the influence or take part in any illegal activities.
