Somerset resident finds intruder in bed

Police unsure of suspects motives but urge residents to keep their windows shut.

A SOMERSET Park resident got the shock of his life when he woke up to find an intruder walk past his bedroom door. According to Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the incident happened at about 11pm on Tuesday evening (5 November).

“The resident heard a noise and woke to find the suspect nonchalantly walk into his spare bedroom. The resident looked into the room and spotted the suspect sitting on the bed. When he confronted the suspect, he jumped out of the spare room window and escaped on foot. A cellphone and watch were taken. It’s not clear what the suspect had in mind, he was either thinking of something else to steal or resting on the bed,” he said.

Deokaran added the spare room window was forced open but urged residents to keep them closed despite the humidity. “We’ve had a spate of break-ins where criminals have gained access through an open window,” he said.
