Teen nabbed for shoplifting
As the festvie season approaches SAPS say there has been a spike of shoplifting cases in Durban North and uMhlanga malls.

THE Durban North SAPS has voiced its concern over recent crime statistics which show a noticeable increase in shoplifting in the Durban North area. Lt Raymond Deokaran, communications officer, said there has been a spike (15 in all last week) in shoplifting cases targeting clothing and food stores.
“It may seem like a petty crime, but crime is crime. Shoplifters will be prosecuted and if the criminal is under age, they will appear in court or pay an admission of guilt fine,” he said. Deokaran added teenagers were often the main culprits.
He added young people have no idea what the crime entails. “Last week we arrested a 15-year-old who had stolen items from Edgars (R850) and Mr Price (R400).
“I feel it is peer pressure that is driving teenagers to commit the crime,” he said.
