Sharks players tackle Volvo Pro-Am event

Sharks players say they are looking forward to this year's Volvo Champs Pro-Am event.

HITTING a hole-in-one is a rare achievement for any golfer. What’s even rarer is a rugby player sinking a beauty on the Durban Country Club golf course. Though Sharks player, Odwa Ndungane, admits he won’t be so optimistic, he cannot rule out the possibility. Speaking to Northglen News the winger said he was looking forward to playing in the Volvo Golf Champions Pro-Am event on 8 January with Sharks teammate and scrumhalf Charl McLeod.

“I’ve been playing golf for a number of years and I’m really excited about playing with the pros. I’m certainly not the best around but hopefully a few pointers from the pros at the event will stand me in good stead,” he joked. Ndungane plays off a respectable 21 handicap and said his preparation for the event was going well. Another facet of the golfing event is playing with teammate McLeod.

“I think we are both very fortunate to be playing because there are plenty of guys in the Sharks dressing room who would love to play at the Pro-Am event,” he said.

European Tour’s year-opening ‘Tournament of Champions’ the Volvo Golf Champions will be played at the Durban Country Club from January 9 to 12 January. Visit www.volvoingolf.com
