Philani believes in prosperity for all
Northwood School pupil bags 7As and insists he will make a difference to the country's economy.
A SENTENCE and statement of intent was all it took to show Northwood School matric pupil, Philani Thusini, was different from his fellow pupils. At the schools’ speech day, Philani received awards for the highest marks in the grade for accounting, business studies, economics and isiZulu but said something profound in his acceptance of the accolades.
“I said I wanted to be an integral part of the country’s dynamic economy, where my enthusiasm and hard work will lead to economic success,” he said. The 18-year-old wasn’t kidding and said he hopes to end up in government and make a difference to the marginalised people.
“Living in KwaMashu opens you up to the reality many people living below the minimum wage line face. I would like to make a difference to ordinary South African’s lives and it’s that motivation which has shaped my future,” he said.
He was quick to stress the importance of education and offered this bit of advice for the matric class of 2014. “You have to plan and manage your study time. Failure to plan is planning to fail. If I’d taken that advice at the beginning of the year I would’ve improved my maths results,” he joked.
