Nobody will ever win the battle of the sexes but for music lovers this is a celebration of musical icons who have made their mark on our lives with their music and song.

THE ultimate challenge is on as male rock stars take on the divas in a rock and roll show-down in Battle Of The Sexes at The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway from 22 April to 1 June. Until the 1990’s few women claimed the rock and roll stage, and only a handful of rock divas such as Cyndi Lauper, Janet Jackson, Shania Twain and Cher took to the stage.
These divas took on the likes of rock band Def Leppard and superstars Prince, Billy Ocean and more to fight to win over audiences and critics. Battle Of The Sexes covers the ultimate wedding sequence where the girls are Going To The Chapel to feel like a Natural Woman. For the guys, she simply Drives Me Crazy, and when things go wrong we encounter a Chain Of Fools and the girls demand some Respect!
At the work place it is a Manic Monday where the girls work Nine To Five and for their male bosses who are happy to be Hip To Be Square. In the ultimate icon challenge we see Annie Lennox, Madonna and Tina Turner making a stand against the likes of Elton John, Bon Jovi and Freddie Mercury; followed by more recent icons such as Lady Gaga and Katy Perry taking on Bruno Mars and Robin Thicke.
It’s all non-stop action but the power and sentiment of the ballads such as Use Somebody by Kings of Leon and Someone Like You by Adele reveal a softer more intimate side of the show. Battle Of The Sexes features a 12-piece cast of singers, musicians and dancers who perform a fun, slick and energetic show that is suitable for Party Rockers and those who are Addicted To Love, but at the end of the day the Girls Just Want To Have Fun and the guys just Wanna Get Rocked!
The cast is made up of local lads Jonothan Didlick and Phaksy Mngomezulu, Theo-lynne Isaacs, Chrystal Worship and Chloe Geldenhuys on vocals; with James Dobson (keyboards & vocals), Jethro Stange (guitar), Rossouw Coetzee (bass guitar) and Brink Jacobs (drums) making up the band. The show also features two dancers – Paula Dawson and Natalie Heyns – who help turn up the heat.
