Its spokesman added that another eight people were arrested for possession of drugs, while five people were arrested for reckless and negligent driving and another five for common assault and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
One person was also arrested for theft of motor vehicle, two people were arrested for illegal dealing of liquor and seven people were arrested for crossing a railway line illegally.
“We’ve found that the abuse of drugs and alcohol often leads to domestic violence and assault and in making these arrests were are curbing the incidents of assault and domestic violence. We’ve also increased our patrols around railway tracks as a number of deaths were reported to the station as a result of people crossing railway lines illegally,” Lt Naidoo said.
He added that the police offiers were focusing on abandoned properties, illegal immigrants, shebeens, illegal taverns and other high crime areas.
“Although we are trying our best to fight crime, we still need the community to help us. Any information we receive from community members will be kept confidential,” Lt Naidoo said.
