Skeletal remains found in Umdloti

The skeletal remains of an unidentified individual has been discovered in Umdloti.

POLICE have just announced that skeletal remains have been discovered on Bellamont Road in Umdloti, yesterday morning. The grim discovery was made by a vagrant who was scavenging the area for scrap metal at approximately 11am.

Durban North SAPS spokesman, Lt Raymond Deokaran, said it is suspected that the bones belonged to another vagrant. “The skeleton was found lying in a sleeping bag. Bottles of medication was found near the remains,” he said.
Police do not suspect foul play, but Deokaran confirmed that an investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

No form of identification was found near the body.
A similar incident was reported five months ago, where a woman, believed to be a vagrant, collapsed and died at the Virginia Circle. She was using TB medication before her death.
