Danville Park Girls' High improve on previous competition's performance finishing a credible sixth.

A YOUNG Danville Park Girls High School team took to the field to compete in the grand finals of the SPAR KZN Regional Hockey Tournament. Taking on nine other regions from around KZN, the Durban North regional winners finished sixth overall after six games.

This is the second time that Danville have made it to the grand finale, improving on their last appearance where they finished ninth. Danville who ended the pool games in third place faced off against Durban Girls’ High School in the playoff game for fifth and sixth position.

The game ended in a nil all draw, with the conclusion resting on a penalty shoot-out. Girls’ High managed to slot in two goals in their five attempts with Danville unable to rise to the occasion.

Defending champions, Durban Girls’ College retained their title in the SPAR KZN Regional Hockey Tournament. College took on St Anne’s in the gold medal game concluding two days of exceptional hockey where the team from Durban won by a single goal.

Les Galloway, tournament director said, “What a conclusion to the regional tournament. We had exciting matches with many goals being scored. It was wonderful to see the players enjoying themselves playing hockey and then having loads of fun off the field. We look forward to next year’s tournament.”
