Hometown boys ready to rumble
Durban to host first Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) event.
GARRETH ‘Soldierboy’ McLellan and Martin ‘The Punisher’ van Staden will return to their hometown for the Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) this week. Set to take place on 30 August EFC Africa 33 will be the first official EFC Africa fight in Durban.
Amped and ready to defend his middleweight champion title, Soldierboy will be taking on former World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO K1) world champion and undefeated youngster, Dricus ‘Stilknocks’ Du Plessis, in the main event of the evening.
Soldierboy is the only EFC Africa athlete in history to successfully regain his title; and with the upcoming fight, he is set to prove that experience and understanding the competition is what makes a champion.
“Being a champion is not the end of a dream, it’s only the beginning,” said McLellan.
The Punisher returns to EFC Africa after ten months of absence due to three torn ligaments during a fight against former welterweight champion, Henry ‘Herculeez’ Fadipe. He will be taking on former middleweight champion, Jeremy ‘The Pitbull’ Smith.
The Punisher is ready to return to The Hexagon and is keen to put his career threatening injury behind him. He aims at showing his hometown fans why he is known as having one of the most powerful punches in EFC Africa. “Nothing’s going to stop me now that I’m back,” he said.
Join Soldierboy and The Punisher for their official after party at Taco Zulu (237 Florida road, Windermere) on Saturday, 30 August straight after their EFC Africa fight. Tickets are available at the door at R100 per person.
