Starving puppies rescued in Virginia Bush

La Lucia animal lover rescues starving pups from Virginia Bush.

FOR almost two weeks residents have reported a stray dog running across Umhlanga Rocks Drive and running into the bushes surrounding the busy road. La Lucia resident, David Hanson, who has started his own organisation called Puppy SOS, said he went searching for the female dog who had recently given birth to a litter of puppies.

“I spent hours looking for her in Virginia Bush and found two of her puppies, a boy and a girl that had become separated from the rest of the family. They were covered in fleas and extremely skittish.

“They cowered in fear as I approached and tried to look for something to hide under. The SPCA had rescued the rest of the litter, but I’m in the process of getting them back and fostering them. Their mom has now disappeared and hasn’t been seen for the last few days,” he said.

Hanson said his newly formed organisation rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes underprivileged puppies as well as educating owners about sterilizing their dogs.

“The little boy and girl pup just want a loving home, they have really warm personalities and are only four weeks old,” Hanson said.

He has also started a partnership with Ashburne Vet with the Give a little, help A Lot! initiative where residents are encouraged to donate any amount to help puppies in need.

The veterinary clinic also gives the puppies a medical check up and consultation.

“I currently have 30 puppies in my care but I would love for these little guys to find their forever home.”
