Broadway bank fire backs up traffic

The fire in Durban North originated outside the bank says paramedics.

TRAFFIC on Swapo Road (Broadway) was brought to a standstill earlier this evening after a fire at ABSA bank. The road was closed at the intersection of St Andrews Drive and traffic had to be diverted.

According to Crisis Medical’s Kyle van Reenen, no one was injured in the fire.

“Crisis Medical paramedics along with Ethekwini Fire and Rescue were alerted to the Absa Bank on Swapo Road shortly after  5pm. Bystanders noticed thick white smoke billowing out of the building.

“On closer inspection it was discovered that the cause of the incident was a fire in a small passageway outside the bank which was feeding smoke into the ducted air conditioning. Members of the fire department confirmed that no damage was done to the building or its contents,” he said.
