Robbers ‘manhandle’ local woman

A woman was assaulted by three men who then dragged her into her house and demanded that she open the safe.

THREE brazen robbers assaulted a woman in her home in Effingham Heights in Avoca last Wednesday before robbing her of cash and valuables worth R100 000.

The incident began at around 1pm, when the woman exited her home to collect clean washing. She was approached by three men wearing gloves and balaclavas.

According to W/O Leon Audh of the Greenwood Park SAPS, the men were ‘verbal and threatening’ towards her.

One of the suspects grabbed her by the hair and dragged her inside her house. Once inside, they demanded that she open her safe. She complied, and the men made off with jewellery, cash and electronics.

Audh urged residents to remain vigilant and to always inspect their surroundings before leaving their home.
Residents who experienced similar incidents or have any information that could assist with the case were asked to come forward.

No arrests have been made. A case of house robbery was opened at the station.
