Man assaulted over ‘parking space’
Police urge residents to cool emotional temperatures on the road after road rage incident on Broadway.

A MAN was assaulted and his car damaged when a road rage incident on Swapo Road (Broadway), allegedly over a parking space, spiraled out of control.
The incident which occurred last week began as a verbal altercation and quickly escalated to a physical one said Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS.
“One of the men was waiting for a parking space on Broadway, near the ABSA bank and had double parked while he waited. It’s alleged the driver of the second vehicle jumped ahead of the queue when a space opened up. This prompted the driver of the awaiting vehicle to start a verbal altercation.”
“He assaulted the driver and then damaged the vehicle by hitting it several times. The man then drove off but the victim was able to jot down his registration. The man has been charged with common assault and for malicious damage to property,” Lt Raymond said.
Deokaran urged motorists not to react to provocation and to stay away from erratic drivers.
In September last year, a Durban North woman was brutally assaulted also over a parking space in uMhlanga. Gayle Graham, a mother of six, said she was harassed, threatened and intimidated by her attacker after the assault.
