Pedestrian killed on Umgeni Road

There were two accidents in the space of an hour on Umgeni Road.

A PEDESTRIAN believed to be in his late thirties was killed after a vehicle struck him at the busy intersection of Alpine and Umgeni Roads on Sunday afternoon.

According to Crisis Medical’s Kyle van Reenen, the man was trying to cross the road when he was hit.

“Paramedics were called to the scene shortly after 4:30pm to find the man lying in the road, having sustained fatal injuries.

“Nothing could be done to assist him and sadly he was declared dead on scene. The driver of the vehicle escaped injury.”

Just an hour later, a man was seriously injured after he fell from the new Umgeni Road interchange.

“He is fighting for his life after falling from the new Umgeni Road interchange. He was placed on a specialised stretcher for suspected neck and spinal cord injuries,” he said.
