UPDATE: R76 000 stolen in NCR heist

Six suspects are said to have targeted the transit security guards as they were collecting cash from the site.

POLICE have confirmed that R76 000 was stolen during the cash-in-transit heist at the Engen Garage on North Coast Road this morning.

Eye witnesses claim that six suspects held up the teller and the transit security guards while they were collecting cash from the premises at around 9.30am, said W/O Leon Audh, spokesman for the Greenwood Park Police Station.

“The suspects fired shots at the security vehicle and took three boxes of cash with an estimated R76 000,” said Audh.

Before fleeing the scene in a black Toyota RunX and white VW Polo, the suspects also snatched one of the security guard’s firearm, added Audh.

The suspects are still at large.
