Motorist ambushed in N2 shooting near uMhlanga

One person was injured when gunmen opened fire on his vehicle on the N2 southbound near Umhlanga this afternoon.

TRAFFIC on the N2 was brought to a near standstill when a motorist came under fire on the N2 southbound after uMhlanga, before the KwaMashu off-ramp, this afternoon (November 3).

KZN VIP said the motorist sustained serious injuries after allegedly being ambushed by three suspects travelling in a white vehicle. KZN VIP spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said the roadway has been obstructed, with traffic severely affected.

“According to initial reports, the victim was travelling in a red BMW when a white vehicle allegedly stopped ahead of the vehicle. Two to three males reportedly exited the vehicle and opened fire towards the BMW,” said Naidoo.

“Despite being wounded, the victim reportedly managed to escape the gunfire. He was treated and stabilised on scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment.”

An investigation into the shooting is underway. Naidoo urged motorists to approach the scene with caution, allow emergency personnel space to work and consider alternative routes where possible.

“The motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unconfirmed and are subject to SAPS investigation,” he added.
