Woman assaulted in attempted robbery in Somerset Park

The robbers used a spade to prop the window open while trying to enter the premises.

A WOMAN was assaulted in an attempted robbery at her home on Hambridge Avenue on Somerset Park on Wednesday at 4am. According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, the men fled the scene when they were spotted, leaving behind their loot.

“The home owner reported that she heard a noise and went outside to investigate. She discovered a suspect attempting to force entry into her home via the kitchen window by forcing the window open with a spade. On confrontation, the suspect assaulted the lady and stole her cell phone, fleeing the premises.

“When Marshall Security Officers inspected the premises further, bags containing items believed to have been stolen were discovered. The lady did not require any medical attention and the incident was handed over to the Durban North SAPS for further investigation,” he said.
