Municipal vehicle torched at Springfield dump

A torched vehicle sparked protest rumours.

DAYS after the violent protest action across the north Durban area, reports have been streaming in of a vehicle being set alight at the Springfield dump on Electron Road.

A source within Durban Solid Waste confirmed that illegal garbage collectors had set the vehicle alight.

W/O Leon Audh, spokesman for the Greenwood Park SAPS, confirmed that a municipal vehicle had been torched but said he could not confirm whether a petrol bomb was used as some messages that have been circulating have suggested.

Audh assured the public that it was an isolated incident and that the fire was not related to any protest action. Police and Marshall Security officials have been inundated with calls from the community querying reports of rioting. “The roads are all clear and there have been no reports of protest action,” said Audh.
