Security guard involved in Glen Anil shooting

Police are still searching for the suspect who remains at large.

MORE details have emerged after the shooting on Cypress Drive on Friday afternoon. Traffic was brought to a standstill as several paramedic services converged at the scene of the shooting in Glen Anil. According to Marshall Security’s Kyle Van Reenen, a security guard was involved in the shooting.

“Reports from the scene suggest that a private security guard who was guarding an industrial site in the area allegedly had a domestic dispute with the victim. Things took a turn for the worse and the guard produced a private small calibre firearm, shooting her in the chest. Fearing for her life she fled on foot down the road before collapsing on the corner of Cypress Drive and Glen Anil Street. The suspect fled in an unknown direction.

“Marshall Security found the victim lying on the pavement in a critical condition. A call was made for the assistance of Netcare 911 paramedics who worked fervently for over 40 minutes to stabilize her. A call was made for the assistance of the Air Mercy 5 Red Cross Helicopter to assist in airlifting the victim to Chief Albert Luthuli Central Hospital,” he said.

The suspect remains at large added Van Reenen.
