MINISTER of Public Works and Infrastructure Dean Macpherson cast his vote in Durban North on Wednesday.
Macpherson, who served as the ward councillor for Ward 36 more than a decade ago, cast his vote at Northwood School.
Macpherson has served as a public representative since 2009 and as a Member of Parliament for the DA since 2014.
“Today, I have joined millions of people across the country by voting for the Democratic Alliance so we can get our towns and cities working again. I proudly voted for the extremely competent Sam Reddy as our eThekwini – Ward 36 councillor, the ward I used to represent from 2009 to 2014. This is a two-horse race between the DA and MK to govern our city. Let’s go out and vote before 21:00,” he said outside the voting station.

Macpherson also spent time speaking to residents outside the voting station, including first-time voter Lyla Appasamy.
She hopes her vote will address various issues, including unemployment, a reduction in crime and a people-centred social support for the homeless.
The 18-year-old urged her peers who are registered to use their constitutional rights to be a part of decision-making that affects their lives and their future.
“I think voting is important because it gives us a voice and allows us to have a say in the future of our country and our communities. This is my first time voting, so it feels especially important to me. I think young people should use their opportunity to vote because the decisions being made today will affect our future. It is also important to hold the people we elect accountable for the promises they make,” she said.
