Protests flare up near Umgeni interchange

Motorists are being urged to avoid using Umgeni Road because of service delivery protests.

PROTEST action has flared up at Durban’s Kennedy Road Informal Settlement. It is understood more than 30 protestors set a municipal vehicle alight. According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, the car was set alight past Makro, leading to Umgeni interchange.

There has been unconfirmed reports of cars being stoned. It is believed the protests are service delivery based.

“We are advising residents to stay away from the area and police are still monitoring the situation. We have also heard that vehicles are being stoned, there has been reported injuries at this stage,” he said.

Traffic is being affected on the N2.
