Protestors return on M19, set fire to bus

Metro Police have blocked the N2 on-ramp at the Umgeni interchange.

PROTESTS have flared up at the Kennedy Road Informal Settlement once again. Protestors have set a municipal bus on fire on the on-ramp from the M19 to the N2 near Springfield Park.  Metro Police have cordoned off on-ramp at Umgeni interchange.

Emergency personnel have again warned motorists to stay clear of the area while the protestors are cleared. Several people have been injured in the protests confirmed Rescue Care paramedics.

There has been unconfirmed reports of a home being petrol bombed. It is believed the protests are service delivery based after shacks were destroyed in the area.

Yesterday protestors set a municipal vehicle alight in order to highlight the residents’ plight.
