Police officer stabbed to death

The officer’s body was discovered in Inanda.

THE Hawks are investigating the recent murder of a Greenwood Park police officer. According to Hawks KwaZulu-Natal spokesman, Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo, Cst Mfundo Phoswa (33) was stabbed in the neck.

Greenwood Park station’s spokesman, W/O Leon Audh, said Phoswa’s body was discovered not to far from his home in Inanda. Audh, confirmed that Phoswa was off duty at the time of the murder.

“Police received a call regarding a body lying in the area, when members arrived at the scene they discovered that it was one of their own. It is unclear what led the officer to that area, but we are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death,” said Mhlongo.

He said there had been no arrests made at this stage.

“Cst Phoswa was a well-respected and dedicated member of our family. He was admired for his humble character and we are already feeling the void left behind by his passing,” said Audh.

Cst Phoswa’s funeral will be held on Saturday.
