Go Green for the environment

The route starts and ends at Green Hub at the mouth of the Umgeni estuary.

THE Green Hub will host its annual Green Run on Sunday, 25 September. For every entrant that participates, a tree will be planted in a green area identified by the Hub.

Brenda Nqutu, manager of the Green Hub, said they are hoping to improve on last years entries so that they can plant more trees

“Last year we had 200 participants and we are hoping to more than double it this year. We planted a number of trees in Quarry Heights last year and this year we hope to do the same. The funds raised from the event will be used to maintain and improve the quality of trails and cleanliness around the uMngeni mouth area.

“We also want to create awareness about what we do and promote the trails and Blue Lagoon. I’m hoping residents will come out in their numbers to support us on the day,” Nqutu said.

Nqutu added both the 5km and 10km trails are loops comprised of trail and road.

“The trails run along the Umgeni River and the edge of the Mangroves Nature Reserve. The 5km trail is ideal for beginners, children, walkers and dogs are allowed. The 10km trail is for those that would expect a bit more of a challenge.

Starting times: 10km: 8am; 5km: 8:15am.
