Woman stabbed in North Coast Road robbery

The woman sustained a single stab wound to her back in the robbery.

A WOMAN was stabbed in a robbery and attempted hijacking on the North Coast Road (going northbound) just after the M25 turn-off. The woman whose car had broken down was accosted by two armed men, confirmed Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen. The incident occurred at about midday on Tuesday (27 September).

“The suspects were reportedly armed with a knife and a handgun. They approached the woman and grabbed her cell phone from her hand. In the ensuing struggle, she was stabbed in the back by the suspects who then fled into the bushes alongside the road. The woman was taken to a hospital in uMhlanga for further care. It’s not clear if the men had also attempted to hijack the woman.

“This particular stretch near the M25 off-ramp has been targeted by opportunistic thieves. Last year, police issued a warning that the area was a smash-and-grab hotspot. In another incident last year, a suspect was shot in the buttocks by police during a shootout in the same vicinity,” he said.
