Fourth Virginia pier victim’s body recovered

The body of the 41-year-old was spotted about 500 metres south of the pier.

THE body of the 41-year-old man who fell off Virginia Pier this morning has been recovered. Col Rene Dlamuka of the Durban North SAPS said Neran Dolantas of Phoenix was found about 500 metres off the shoreline.

Dolantas, was allegedly at the beach with friends and had fallen off from the pier which is missing part of its railing.

A police source said the victim’s family had positively identified him.

“Police divers from Durban Search and Rescue along with lifeguards recovered the body of the victim who drowned off Virginia beach pier. His family members have positively identified him. The body was found floating 500 metres south of the pier, just beyond backline,” a police source said.

This is now the fourth drowning in October and the third in a week.
