Andrew Sachs, Manuel from Fawlty Towers, dies aged 86

World reacts to Fawlty Towers star's death.

THERE has been an outpouring of grief after Andrew Sachs, the actor best known for playing Manuel, the bemused Spanish waiter in the BBC comedy series Fawlty Towers,  died at age 86.

Sachs, had been suffering dementia for several years and passed away in a care home last week.

Sachs was a household name in homes around the world in 1970s sitcom. Worried that he could not do a Spanish accent, Sachs initially wanted to play the role as a German.

His death prompted tributes from his fellow actor, John Cleese and the acting fraternity.
