WATCH: Who has the most powerful passport in the world?

Visa restriction index determines which countries have the most travel freedom.

IF you’ve always wondered where South Africa’s ‘Green Mamba’ passport ranks, you need not ponder anymore. Residence and citizenship planning firm, Henley & Partners recently released its 2016 Visa Restriction Index in cooperation with the International Air Transport Association to determine which countries have the most travel freedom

South Africa has the 54th most powerful passport in the world allowing visa free travel to 97 countries. Other Southern African countries like Zimbabwe and Mozambique offer 57 and 51 countries respectively.

Germany was identified as having the strongest passport for the third year in a row with 177 visa-free travel destinations available to its citizens. The U.K. came in third place with 175 while the U.S. came in fourth with 174.
