SAPS identify eMdloti criminal escape routes

Police say there will be more operations like this throughout the new year.

DURBAN North SAPS, the Durban North/Umhlanga CPF as well as the Land Invasion Unit took part in an operation to identify escape routes used by criminals in eMdloti. According to Capt Raymon Deokaran, spokesman for the station, in the past, criminals had used the bushes in eMdloti to target tourists as well as residents.

“We searched all the escape routes in eMdloti between Bellamont Road and the M4 freeway. We had two teams on the day and one of them searched the rear of the lodges where the criminals usually hide before breaking into the houses on the lower portion of North Beach Road,” he said.

He added while no shacks were found in the operation, the police were able to positively identify escape routes used by the criminals.

“We are confident we will be able to fight the scourge of crime in the area. We have more operations planned for eMdloti and other areas being targeted,” he said.
