New attraction for Durban’s South Beach

The new outdoor gym at the Durban beachfront was handed over to the City last month.

THERE’S a new attraction at Durban’s South Beach reports the Berea Mail. Apart from the golden sands and blue ocean, the area now boasts a newly installed outdoor gym. The gym, according to councillor Nicole Graham, was funded by the national Department of Sports and Recreation and last month got the approval for handover by eThekwini council.

“It is really an exciting addition. What we need to see is more constructive use of public open space. It’s great as a lot of people will be able to use the gym. I feel we need to build on this, as other gyms in parks around the city have been relatively well used, which is a good sign,” said Graham.

“Some people can’t afford expensive gym contracts and now it is possible to get exercise and be active. It’s brought to us for free, and I’m really happy about this. If we get hot after exercising, we can run straight into the sea,and the showers are nearby, so everything is in order,” he said.
